What to do on a visit to London Bridge

by Norm on 21/02/2011

This is what London Bridge looks likeEveryone in the world has heard of London Bridge yet it seems only Londoners know what it actually looks like.

For this article I did a Google and Bing search for London Bridge and most of the images for bridges were images of Tower Bridge!

It was then that I realised how confusing it must be for tourists when they go to London Bridge and do not see Tower Bridge.

I also thought that if they do go to that area it would be a good idea to have something that told them about the 2 must visit places there and some tips on getting there.

Feel free to print this out or share it with your friends who may not know what London Bridge looks like. And if you want other tips about London, England this link and our blog will help.

2 Places to visit when at London Bridge

Borough Market

Borough Market is one of the best food markets in London because it has such a huge range of foods often from specialist suppliers.

When you go there you’ll be surprised at what you can find, a friend once came back with an ostrich egg!

The best day to go is Thursday because come Saturday it is so busy that it ceases to be a fun and interesting place to visit, it just becomes a real grind.

To get to the market is very simple as it’s only a few minutes walk from any of the London Bridge station exists however the exit that’s best is the Borough High Street exit.

The Borough Market is just a couple of minutes walk away from London Bridge station and has to be one of the places you visit when you come to London. One word of warning though, it gets extremely busy from late morning on Saturdays, so my advice would be to go on either the Thursday or Friday.

The Scoop

The Scoop is at a place called More London and it’s where free open air films and plays take place, it’s one of those hidden gems you always hope to find in London but it’s really only open during the summer and early autumn months.

As I said the events there are free and the films they show are generally old classic movies, you’ll have to wrap up when you go though because even in summer it gets quite cold in the evening because the event is held in an open air amphitheatre.

Don’t let this put you off though, you’ll have a great time there, events often start around 6pm and seating is on a first come first served basis

The Scoop is about 10 minute walk from London Bridge station when you turn right out of the station.

A few travel tips about London Bridge

1. The easiest way to get to London Bridge is by the tube.

2. On the platform look for signs for the Tooley Street exit if you want to go to The Scoop.

3. On the platform look for signs for the Borough High Street if you want to go to Borough Market.

4. When you get out of the station at the Tooley Street exit turn right and head down the road and cross over, the Scoop is about 10 minutes away.

5. If you want something to eat it’s best to head for Borough Market.

6. Borough Market is not open every day it’s open 11am – 5pm Thursdays, 12pm -6pm Fridays and 8am – 5pm Saturdays.
